Markus is an applied mathematician working on systems and control theory, machine learning and artificial intelligence approaches, and their applications within environmental sensing, systems biology, renewable energy engineering, and human health and wellbeing. Markus has delivered projects on indoor environmental sensor use for healthy homes and independent living, population ecology with a specific interest in pest and invasive species management and agri-tech, and energy systems modelling and optimisation. Markus is based at the university's Penryn Campus as academic lead for Environmental Mathematics in the highly interdisciplinary Department of Earth and Environmental Science.
